to be a man, today

For the Feminine who feels she has been wronged
Or betrayed
Or misused
By the Masculine in her life,
Don't let the one embodiment
The one expression
Speak for the whole.

For every man who is unable to rest
Comfortably in his masculinity
In his strength
As well as his tenderness
Who is unable to show you his softness
For fear that he will become vulnerable

There is a man who will pry open his chest
To show you what lies
Even though he is also afraid
Even though he knows it might mean
That your fingers will rend his heart
Ventricle from ventricle
In love and struggle

He gathers his trust
And lets the mask fall
Shattered open
His eyes searching yours to say,

Will you meet me there?
